Two weeks of protest/Dos semanas de protestas
On July 13, 2019, the Center for Investigative Journalism (CPI) shared 889 pages of a private chat on the Telegram platform where Governor Ricardo Roselló Nevares and several members of his cabinet discussed different strategies to manipulate public opinion. The plan was to change the narrative of the funds' management for recovery after Hurricane Maria, also to change the number of deaths after this catastrophe, and others. They also used this platform to attack those they considered their political enemies, such as the mayor of San Juan Yulin Carmen Yulín Cruz, the Feminist Collective, or the singer Ricky Martin using misogynist and homophobic language. The revelation of this private chat where the governor and his "brothers" make sexist comments where they call the women they attack as whores or "gatitas", or cruel and horrible jokes, such as those related to the dead corpses still waiting for autopsies in Forensic Sciences.
This chat unleashed a response never seen in Puerto Rico. Massive protests, thousands of people calling for the resignation of the Governor of Puerto Rico. The magnitude of these protests exceeded similar demonstrations in the past, for instance, protests against the United States Navy and its presence in the island-municipality of Vieques. Our project will try to document the news, the thousands of comments, photos, and videos shared on social media. We are interested in preserving the massive reaction from Puerto Ricans on the island and those who live in the diaspora (USA, Europe, Latin America, Asia, etc.), documenting this historic moment in Puerto Rico.Ch Sobri admin: "Ahora que estamos en ese tema [sobre Ciencias Forences], no tenemos algun cadaver para alimentar a nuestros cuervos? El 13 de julio del 2019, el Centro de Periodismo Investigativo (CPI) compartio 889 páginas de un chat privado en la plataforma Telegram donde el gobernador Ricardo Roselló Nevares y varios miembros de su gabinete discutian diferentes estrategias para manipular la opinion publica para cambiar la narrativa negativa contra su gobierno sobre el manejo de fondos para la recuperacion despues del Huracan Maria, o la cantidad real de muertos despues de esta catastofre. En adicion, utilizaron esta plataforma para atacar a quienes consideraban sus enemigos politicos como la alcadesa de San Juan Yulin Carmen Yulín Cruz, el Colectiva Feminista o el cantante Ricky Martin usando lenguaje misoginista y homofobico, Las 889 páginas de Telegram entre Rosselló Nevares y sus allegados.
La revelacion de este chat privado donde el gobernador y sus "brothers" hace comentarios sexistas donde llaman a las mujeres que atacan como putas o gatitas, o bromas crueles y macabras, como las relacionadas con los muertos todavia esperando autopsias en Ciencias Forenses,
desencadeno una respuesta nunca vista en Puerto Rico, protestas masivas, miles de personas, pidiendo la renuncia del governador de Puerto Rico. La magnitud de estas protestas exceden protestas similares en el pasado como las protestas en contra de la Marina de los Estados Unidos y su presencia en el municipio-isla de Vieques.Ch Sobri admin: "Ahora que estamos en ese tema [sobre Ciencias Forences], no tenemos algun cadaver para alimentar a nuestros cuervos? Nuestro proyecta tratara de documentar las noticas y los miles de comentarios, fotos y videos compartidos en social media como Twitter y Facebook donde tanto los puertorriqueños en la isla como los que viven en las diaspora (EEUU, Europa, Latinoamerica, Asia, etc.) documentando este momento historico en Puerto Rico.
